A bit about meira

Meira Gebel (she/her/hers) is a California-born, Oregon-based writer, editor, and journalist.

She holds a Bachelors in Print and Online Journalism with a minor in Humanities from San Francisco State University, and a Masters of Science from Columbia Journalism School.

Currently, she is a reporter for Axios Local, writing its daily Portland newsletter. She writes about business, culture, and technology, but also has the capability to write about other things, even those that do not interest her.

Meira’s work has been published in Business Insider, Digital Trends, USA Today, The Detroit Free Press, San Francisco Magazine, The Oregonian, Willamette Week, and many more.

She is a big believer in local journalism, organized labor, shared knowledge, and advocating for the rights, equity and fair wages of freelancers and student journalists in the publishing and media industries.

Meira enjoys hiking with her husband (and a Whippet named Joby), complaining about spin class, and binge-watching the latest HBO tragicomedy (without guilt). She spends too much time online — something she’s trying to change.
